defector: (♠ I find myself still softly searching)

The scene opened to show what appeared to be an office, with numerous sculptures lying around and a decorated ceiling. It might've been a nice room, had it not been an office, and thus not meant to look so elegant.

On top of a desk sat a cat, and sitting behind it was an old man with glasses in uniform, looking over some papers. As the door opened, the cat jumped off and headed towards the newcomers: Dominic Sorel and a third man in uniform.

"Excuse me, General Kajim," said the latter, as the cat leapt into Dominic's arms. "That seat... could you please move out of it?"

He smirked. "That is now my chair."

General Kajim's eyes widened, like he was seeing a ghost. In a tone fit for his expression, he spoke. "Dewey Novak...!"

Dominic couldn't help but feel smug about the situation, although he didn't show it. Days before, he'd asked for Dewey Novak to be released, only to have General Kajim deny his request. In the end though, the word of the three sages was law, and overruled any General's decision.

Silently, and without his cat, General Kajim left the room.

Briefly, the scene faded to black, before showing a new one. Dewey was now sitting behind the desk, with Dominic was standing in front of it, General Kajim's cat happily clinging to his back. While Dewey looked over the same papers General Kajim had been not too long ago, Dominic said,

"The three sages command you to appear for the commencement..."

"Ignore them," Dewey replied. Dominic seemed a bit bewildered at this.

"But..."

"Learn your history, Dominic," was Dewey's response. "Revolutionaries often rebel against authority."

This time, Dominic just looked exasperated, as the cat climbed to his head. "... Is that so."

Ignoring his comment, Dewey continued. "You have three jobs to do: To take away this distracting furniture, to make me some very good coffee--" He lay out a paper and few photos

"--and to obtain the 'Amita Drive' from the Nirvash."

Then, suddenly, it was as if everything had been set to mute. Dominic's mouth moved, like he were saying something, but nothing came out. Instead, a distant voice floated from off-screen, sounding very much like him.

"That was when everything began, wasn't it?

... 'Revolutionaries often rebel against authority.' Who knew that his words could be turned against him later on?"

[Dominic wakes up, musing over his dream.]

Funny how long ago that seems.

I guess it's just universal.

But I wouldn't have become a soldier if I didn't want to deal with that kind of thing.

Like it matters? Whatever it is, probably doesn't mean much here.

You're right, it doesn't. Which is why you don't need to know.
